THE MARATHON COURSE

This year (2008) the ADTM marathon will start at 6:30 a.m., 26 miles north of downtown Colorado Springs on the Santa Fe Trail in Palmer Lake.  This event is almost entirely on trails. The point-to-point course begins at Palmer Lake, CO and ends in Colorado Springs. The course generally follows the path of the former Santa Fe railroad right-of-way from north to south. The altitude drops gradually along the trail starting at about 7300 feet and ending around 6040 feet near downtown Colorado Springs. This should be a gently rolling, fast course, with about 75% hardpacked trails, some gravel, some asphalt and a small section of concrete pavement. The course lies just east of the Rampart Range and offers views of the majestic United States Air Force Academy and fantastic glimpses of Pikes Peak and other nearby mountain scenery.  The race ends at the new downtown Colorado Springs’ America the Beautiful Park (formerly Confluence Park) If you are interested in pacing for the marathon event, we have a  pace team approach!

THE HALF MARATHON and 5K COURSES:

This year (2008) the ADTM half marathon (6:30 a.m. start) and 5K (7:30 a.m. start) events begin and end at the new downtown Colorado Springs’ America the Beautiful Park (formerly Confluence Park), a convenient location with a view of Pikes Peak and Colorado’s Rampart Range. The event courses have little altitude change; and follow Monument Creek, almost entirely on trails.  The half marathon course is the same as the one used in 2007.  The half marathon course goes directly north from the park and extends to the turnaround north of Garden of the Gods Road with a small gain in elevation. The return goes south following the same path.  The half-marathon course is essentially flat, with a few undulations.

ADVANTAGES OF THE COURSES:

The finish areas are at the same place-America the Beautiful Park, for each event.  Ample parking will be just to the east of the park.  The venue allows for a multiple race format: marathon, half marathon, 5K and kids races.

The Ent Community Fitness 5K Challenge Fund Raiser (walk/run) and Kids Event: Bring your family. Ent and ADTM raised over $5000 for youth fitness in 2007.

The Ent Community Fitness 5K Challenge (walk/run) event follows the marathon course north from America the Beautiful Park and then returns to the park along the same trail.  The 5K event is designated as a walk/run, fund raiser. Two kid's run (one mile or one-half mile loop FUN RUN) will take place starting around 8:30 a.m. at the park.

The pre-race pasta dinner  speaker for 2008 is Dr. Andy Subudhi (He has run a 100 miler!). Sign up for the dinner and meet runners from different parts of the country and participate in an engaging discussion after dinner about runners and running!
